As well as producing a wide variety of industry leading ‘off the shelf’ forensic science instruments, Foster + Freeman are also known for their ability to design and engineer unique products to meet customers’ exact specifications.
When the Austrian State Printing House (OeSD) first began searching for a device with the high resolution imaging capabilities of a Foster + Freeman VSC6000 that was also capable of examining large sheets of un-cut security documents it soon became clear that no such instrument existed.
The vast majority of document examination systems are designed for use in the examination of smaller documents, meaning that in order to examine documents on a much larger scale (such as the un-cut sheets of Austrian passports) a bespoke solution would need to be found.
Last month, Foster + Freeman Ltd shipped a unique variation on the VSC 6000 capable of examining documents 835mm in width and of infinite length. Named the VSC6000/LF, this one-of-a-kind device not only meets the needs of the Austrian State Printing House but could also be used for numerous other examinations of large scale documents; possibilities include checking the integrity of large manuscripts and discerning the authenticity of artwork.
